South Korea 2-1 Portugal: Asian giants reach the knockout round with sensational comeback

A late winner for South Korea saw them qualify for the World Cup’s last-16 round ahead of Uruguay.

South Korea defeated Portugal 2-1 in their World Cup game on Friday. A dramatic victory saw Taegeuk Warriors qualify to the next round alongside Portugal.

Last minute surprise!

Portugal started off by stunning their opponents with an early opener.

Following an assist from Diogo Dalot, Ricardo Horta made it 1-0 for Portugal with a precise shot.

South Korea then pushed hard to get back into the game while Portugal looked dangerous on the counter-attacks.

Following a poor clearance from Cristiano Ronaldo, Kim Young-Gwon snatched the equalizer for the Asian giants from close range.

The Koreans tried to complete their comeback in the first half. But their attacks lacked enough edge to break Portugal’s defence.

Portugal: Ronaldo struggles with fitness issue ahead of South Korea clash

Portugal might have to play without CR7 in their last group-sate game.

Portugal manager Fernando Santos has confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo is not fully fit ahead of his side’s upcoming match against South Korea.

Ronaldo played for Portugal in their 2-0 win over Uruguay on Monday. However, he couldn’t participate in his side’s training two days later.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Santos admitted Ronaldo might miss the game against South Korea.

“I think it is 50-50 if he plays or not, we’ll see,” Santos said at a press conference.

Manchester United getting there amid dressing-room drama!

The Reds ended the first leg of their 2022/23 season as Qatar 2022 dawns, 3 points behind the Champions League spots with a game in hand.

United have made remarkable progress under manager Erik Ten Hag.

With a host of transfers coming in during the summer break, and add to that the resurgence of Antony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof and most visibly Diogo Dalot under the Dutchman’s watch, it looks like the glory days are back at the red half of Manchester.

While the numbers are the same compared to the previous season, the style of football and the structure of United’s game has been pleasing to anyone with Manchester United tickets.

On the last Sunday in the Premier League, Alejandro Garnacho’s goal in the 93rd minute gave Manchester United victory over Fulham in stoppage time, earning the United all three points as they left southwest London.

Saudi Arabian club to enjoy government support in Ronaldo chase

The Portugal international is available as a free agent after terminating his Man Utd contract.

Saudi Arabia’s sports minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal supports the idea of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to the country’s domestic league.

Manchester United announced they terminated Ronaldo’s contract on mutual consent earlier this week. Having left Old Trafford for the second time in his career, Ronaldo is free to join a new club after the World Cup.

In addition to interest from a few Premier League and Major League Soccer (MLS) sides, an unnamed Saudi club is also in the race to sign CR7.

Speaking to BBC, Saudi Arabia’s sports minister expressed his excitement over the possible transfer.

“Anything is possible,” he said. “I would love to see Ronaldo play in the Saudi league.
