If there is one team that should be the most desperate to turn in a winning season in 2022, it just may be the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The program has gone a once unthinkable five consecutive seasons without playing in a bowl game, but hopes are rising high that this is the year that drought comes to an end. And, if a few things can go their way, Nebraska could be a viable player in the way the Big Ten West shakes out this fall.

On Thursday evening, the Kansas City Chiefs will play their final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers at Arrowhead Stadium. Before the stadium clock reads 3 pm on the following Tuesday, Kansas City must have its roster down to 53 players.

So for Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, it’s the time of year when the “Hiring All Applicants” sign is posted in the window.

“We’re evaluating what you did in the meeting room,” he told reporters before the team’s practice on Monday, “[along with] what you’re doing in the walk-throughs — and on the field. Kelly Kay has shared some touching news in the wake of her loss.

Kelly, who is the girlfriend of late Oregon Ducks football player Spencer Webbannounced that she is expecting his child after the 22-year-old passed away from an accidental fall in July. In honor of the news, she took to Instagram to pen a message to her late partner.

“We created an angel before heaven gained one,” she wrote on Aug. 22. “All you ever wanted was to be a father…I know you’ll be the best one from up above.”

She continued her thoughts by reflecting on her future as a mother. “Can’t believe I have to do it without you but knowing I’ll have a piece of you keeps me going,” Kelly wrote. “I can’t wait to meet the person that’s half you, half me.”

She added, “I love you forever, both of you.”

There is a constant narrative that has been floating around in college football over the past few years. That narrative sounds something like this: “There are only a certain number of elite teams, and nobody else can be elite.”

While the first part of that statement is accurate, the second part of that statement is the furthest thing from the truth. Sure, it’s not easy to gain elite status. Just ask Texas A&M. The Aggies have been recruiting at a high level, but have yet to make their own conference championship game.

However, there is still a path to being among the elite teams. A perfect example of that is Clemson. The Tigers’ head coach, Dabo Swinney, took over a perennial seven-to-nine-win team, and he turned them into a consistent national title contender.

The highly anticipated first fall scrimmage took place for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program on Aug. 13. Texas took to the practice field on the Forty Acres on Aug. 13 to see which players could rise to the occasion and to start really figuring out some of the more important position battles ahead of the upcoming regular season.

Sark and the Longhorns staff got underway with the first fall practice on Aug. 13, with some very notable nuggets coming out of the festivities this weekend. From the sound of it, the Longhorns saw the defense really rise to the occasion this weekend.
