The rivalry between the University of Southern California and the University of California at Los Angeles is legendary, longstanding, and much-reaching. It involves its peak at the annual soccer game between the UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans.

When first built, the stadium had a grass surface up until 1967, when the field was resurfaced with astroturf resulting from poor draining conditions after heavy rains. The astroturf stayed in place till 1993, when it was substitute with Tiftway Bermuda due to the injuries triggered from the artificial grass. For the 2007 season the surface received its first replace since 1994. The entire subject was resodded with Patriot Bermuda. The grass was laid over a twelve inch deep sand mattress to help with the drainage issues the sphere experiences.

What a incredible method to end an outstanding season! It is difficult to explain the way it felt to sit in Pro Player stadium and watch the Trojans dominate the Sooners. It was euphoric, electric, exhilarating (good alliteration!)….a celebration of all the pieces that’s Trojan soccer.

Don was the eleventh president of the TCSD and served from 1990- 1992. He also served the TCSD Board for close to 23 years, and ran our golf tournaments and since 1990 in addition to the Trojan Club of San Diego Luncheons. Don was an ideal socializer with Trojan Football Athletic Club (TFAC) too and made many contacts with previous players who would later grow to be speakers at our Luncheons.

Senior soccer gamers Zachary Doyon and Zachary Mitchell have made the choice to continue their enjoying careers in school. Both boys were members of the varsity soccer staff all four years of high school and performed main roles in contributing to the teams’ back to again state championship wins. Their standout performances have given them the chance to take their recreation to a different level.

One thing college directors enjoy is the hype that comes with having a staff ranked nationally. And presently, ‘the chances are ever within the favor’ of men’s volleyball teams.
