BYU football: The position group for Cougars that is succeeding

Which coach for No. 19 BYU is getting the most out of his room?

Just scatter-shooting, here’s a ranking of the top three:

1. Fesi Sitake, wide receivers.

2. Jernaro Gilford, cornerbacks.

3. Aaron Roderick, quarterback.

Oh, there are arguments that could be made up and down the line, across the hallway. Experts would want to bring in film, break down plays, draw stuff up on a chalkboard and debate football acumen, skills, schemes, grades, successes and failures. One could make a case for the tight ends through Isaac Rex coming back from injury and Dallin Holker’s defection.

But just going by the eye test, the prize goes to the former Weber State offensive coordinator and Southern Utah running back Fesi Sitake for the job he’s doing with a deep and talented receiving corps. He is also the pass-game coordinator. When he was hired by his cousin, head coach Kalani

Projecting AP Top 25 rankings entering Week 6

Top-ranked Georgia escaped Missouri’s near upset Saturday night to highlight a loaded college football slate ahead of the Week 6 AP Top 25 rankings release. In our latest projection, the Bulldogs will remain at No. 1, but there will be widespread changes elsewhere after Kentucky’s loss to Ole Miss earlier in the day means a top 10 team has now lost eight times this fall, the most through four weeks since 2009.

The Wildcats will drop in Sunday’s new rankings while Ole Miss, which moved to 5-0 under Lane Kiffin, has a shot at a top-10 ranking. Several new teams are entering the poll for the first time, including Kansas. The Jayhawks held off Iowa State at home as an underdog and is one of three unbeatens left in the Big 12, joining TCU — a big-time winner over Oklahoma — and Oklahoma State.

Cal Poly unveils plans for construction of John Madden Football Facility

The John Madden Football Facility is coming to Cal Poly.

Madden’s family and the school unveiled plans Saturday for the construction of a $30 million football building that has been in the works for a few years, prior to the Pro Football Hall of Famer’s death in December. He was 85.

“He had a few swings and misses at college and Cal Poly came to him when he was a guy needing a third or a fourth chance,” said Madden’s son Mike. “I think he always felt a debt of gratitude to where Cal Poly was there when he needed somebody to be there for him and they were. He didn’t forget that.”

Madden attended three colleges before enrolling at Cal Poly in 1957, where he also played baseball. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university. The 30,000-square-foot building will be in the end zone of Alex G.

Dabo Swinney on player leaving Clemson football: ‘Guys aren’t patient’

CLEMSON – Wide receiver Dacari Collins had diminished playing time and apparently diminished patience as well.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney in his Wednesday news conference addressed the sophomore’s exit from the team this week and his decision to enter the transfer portal. Collins, who was a key player down the stretch last season and made three starts, had only 12 snaps last week in the 48-20 win against Louisiana Tech.

Fifth-ranked Clemson (3-0, 1-0 ACC) plays Saturday (noon, ABC) at No. 16 Wake Forest (3-0, 0-0).

“Guys aren’t patient much anymore,” Swinney said. “That’s the world we live in.”
