History of BMX Bike Sports

Bicycle Moto Cross or often called BMX first appeared in 1970 in California. As long as the name of BMX was inspired by motocross which was popular in the United States, many children and adolescents who wanted to participate in motocross but were unable to make their own tracks and race bikes like motocross, so BMX was a human-powered motocross .

BMX racing is so popular in California, compared to other cities in the United States, because BMX racing shows exciting action, inexpensive, and can be played near home. For the type of bicycle, the size and availability of a design model by Schwin called Schwin Sting Ray (designed and produced in 1963) became the choice of the appropriate bike, because it was easy to use and in accordance with the appearance and ability of BMX bikes. The BMX competition was phenomenal in the mid 1970s. At that time it was still adopting an offroad race. In the middle of the decade, this sport became known and many manufacturers were interested in starting to produce it.

George E. Esser, who funded the National Bicycle League (NBL) as a bicycle non-profit organization. Before he prepared the NBL, George and his wife, Mary, held a race with the American Motocross Association. Their two sons, Greg and Brain, are motorcycle riders, but also enjoy BMX racing. It was their two children who inspired him that at that time there was no BMX organization, it made George to establish the NBL in Florida. In April 1981, the BMX International Federation was founded and the first World Championship was held in 1982. Since January 1993, BMX joined the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
