Ronaldo sends message to Man Utd fans after contract termination

CR7 ends his second spell at Old Trafford to “seek a new challenge”.

Cristiano Ronaldo has released a statement after Manchester United confirmed his departure from the club.

The decision came after Ronaldo shocked United fans with a controversial interview last week. The 37-year-old, who struggled for game time under Erik ten Hag at the first half of the season, said he doesn’t respect the Dutchman.

United came under pressure to make a decision over Ronaldo’s future due to the interview’s backlash. The club finally announced they have terminated the 37-year-old’s contract on Tuesday.

CR7 then published a message on his social media, addressing the Man United fans.

“Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” Ronaldo’s statement reads.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Ronaldo will be able to join a new club for free after the World Cup. Chelsea are reportedly interested in keeping the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the Premier League, while a return to Sporting CP is another possibility.
